Central Alabama Water today launched its new website – caw-al.gov.

The new website makes it easier for customers to complete the tasks they most often visit the website for, such as paying their bill, requesting new service and reporting a water outage. Customers attempting to visit the utility’s former website will be re-directed to the new website.

“Being a world-class water utility includes having a website that puts the customer first,” said Jeffrey F. Thompson, CEO of Central Alabama Water. “Our customers are able to easily access our website and their account information no matter where they are or what device they’re using. This is another step on our journey to transform Central Alabama Water into an organization our customers can be proud of and trust to serve them every day.”

Visitors to caw-al.gov will notice accessibility improvements and easier navigation between sections and pages. Those accessing the site on their phone will appreciate the mobile-friendly design.

Some pages such as online bill pay and registering for new service will seamlessly redirect to the former web domain, bwwb.org, while those third-party vendors update their systems. Those changes are expected to be completed soon.

Reasons to move to a .gov web domain
Central Alabama Water chose to move to a .gov web domain with the launch of the new website. This vastly improves cybersecurity, trust and accountability, while ensuring the public can clearly identify the utility as an official government service. The .gov web domains are only available to U.S.-based government organizations and require registration and validation with the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

Email addresses are changing too
Central Alabama Water is in the process of moving employee email addresses to the @caw-al.gov suffix. Members of the public should continue to send messages to email addresses they have previously used as they will automatically route to the recipient.
