Recognizing the importance of drinking water

Highlighting the importance of drinking water and the people who keep it flowing.

Central Alabama Water (CAW) is joining utilities around the country to celebrate Drinking Water Week, May 3-9, 2026.

The annual observance is led by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) to highlight the importance of safe, reliable drinking water and recognize the water professionals who keep this essential resource flowing around the clock.

For CAW, that commitment to high quality drinking water spans customers across five counties – Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Blount and Walker. The water we provide is essential to their health, hydration and hygiene. Drinking water also plays an important role in other aspects of daily life such as fire protection and economic development.

That’s why our treatment plant operators and water quality experts make sure every drop of water we send to customers meets all state and federal regulations for safe drinking water. These men and women and everyone one else on the CAW team work daily to serve customers and build a world class utility.

This weeklong observance is also an opportunity for customers to learn more about their water system. CAW will highlight some of the people and places that support Alabama’s largest water utility. We encourage you to follow along, interact with us on social media and gain a deeper understanding of how drinking water supports the communities we serve.
